Summary

A girl named Ryuko Matoi arrives at Honnouji Academy to find her father's murderer and avenge him. There she meets fellow student Mako Mankanshoku, who reveals that the school is ruled under the fascist iron fist of Satsuki Kiryuin and her Elite Four student council; Ryuko also finds a talking, superpowered sailor uniform named Senketsu, who transforms into battle armor when taking in Ryuko's blood. With her scissor blade (the one she found impaled on her father) and uniform, Ryuko fight's the Academy's students and leaders (all of whom also wear superpowered uniforms) as she learns more about her father's death and her destiny.

Review

Story: 10/10
Kill la Kill has a very intriguing story, with a lot of twists and turns along the way. A good way to describe it is this:

And before you hit that equals sign, you gotta multiply by Zack Snyder. The first few episodes are pretty formulaic. Is that a bad thing? Not really because those episodes actually introduce this anime's universe. The anime also has a theme I never thought would be touched upon: clothing=not showing your true colors. I thought that was a pretty brilliant idea to portray a theme like that. Kill la Kill's story really keeps your eyes glued to the screen to see what happens next.

Characters: 10/10
From appearances to personalities, the characters in this anime are remarkable. They have such great chemistry with each other that they're all realistic, especially the chemistry between Ryuko and Senketsu. They also have very unique personalities. I do want to talk about Mako in this part. She is obviously the comic relief of the show, and at times she can be annoying. Does that mean she's a horrible character? Nope. Despite that personal gripe I have, I still think she's a great character due to her relationship with Ryuko. There is another character on the show that I do have a gripe with, but she doesn't appear until later on. Her name is Rei and she was the most unnecessary character in the whole show--she can literally be written out and nothing will change. I still gave the character score the perfect score because of the characters' likeabilities (especially the villains; they were really hated by the audience for what they do to the protagonists, and that's what makes them great villains) and chemistry with each other.

Visuals: 8/10
You can tell that Gainax employees helped in working with this Trigger anime just from looking at the visuals. At times there are the "QUALITY," so that's why it's not a perfect score. Other than that, Kill la Kill has pretty good animation and visuals, especially during action sequences.

Sounds and Music: 10/10
Great visuals need great sounds, and man does this anime have them. The characters' seiyuus performed the voices greatly and the sounds during the action scenes are really kick-ass, especially in episodes 9 and 10. The music is definitely worth downloading on your phone or iPod. Not just one song, I'm talking about the whole OST! No one can deny that this anime has great music and sounds.

Emotion and Enjoyment: 8/10
Kill la Kill has a very great way of connecting with the audience, despite its over the top humor. It knows when to take itself seriously. There are a few moments when certain events just come and go, but it still works because the anime just gets right to the point instead of lingering it for a few episodes. (Yes, I'm talking to you Attack on Titan's pacing). That can also be a problem because it makes the show a bit rushed. There is also a lot of partial nudity, but it strangely works and makes sense in context of the story--and I say strangely because some may find partial nudist moments distracting. Despite the few criticisms, you can still have the interesting story and good characters to provide yourself with an emotional show. Humorous, exciting, and dramatic--Kill la Kill has it all to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Kill la Kill is a great anime. The characters are awesome, the story is epic, etc.--almost everything about this anime is worth watching, depending on your tastes. It is very similar to Gurren Lagann, from its story to its characters. Is it better than Gurren Lagann? No, not really--Gurren Lagann has better emotional moments, but Kill la Kill has better aliens (seriously, its aliens are literally the fibers in our clothing just waiting to devour humans--that's an awesome concept). It's an odd comparison, but I just thought it was worth noting.

Kill la Kill is a fantastic anime, and seeing it end is pretty emotional...

If you haven't yet, I really recommend you watch Kill la Kill.

I find myself agreeing with this, especially that potshot at AoT. It could go a bit faster.
